An off-grid property is generally one that is not connected to municipal infrastructure such as power, water and sewer. Those systems are replaced by other means such as solar power, wells and septic fields. Here on El Reposo, we are 100% solar-powered, our water is trucked in and stored in large cisterns in the ground and the septic is a Biodigestor. This means our resources are not infinite and require monitoring and conservation.
The most impactful aspect of an off-grid property is power consumption. While there is plenty of power for everyday activities such as lights, appliances and device charging, there is not enough power available for running an air-conditioner 24 hours a day. Luckily here in Baja, it’s not needed most months of the year. Here are a few measures our guests can take to help manage power on the property:
- Turn off lights and fans when not in use.
- Charge devices when the sun is high and do not plug them in overnight.
- Put your RV fridge on a low setting or put it in Night mode overnight.
- Feel free to use your air conditioner when the sun is high in the sky and turn it off around 4 or 5 in the evening.
- Open windows and a good fan will help provide a comfortable sleep.
We hope that this is helpful information and will assist our guests in managing power on the property and avoid power interruptions.
Have a restful day!
